“I paint the way some people write their autobiography. The paintings, finished or not, are pages of my journal, and as such they are valid”.

Get to know Me!
Elise Katzif Walker : artist, mom, lover of cheese
It’s been quite a journey to get here. In preschool, I had to be bribed away from the art center. In first grade, art time was used as an incentive to complete school work. In high school, I dreamed of becoming an artist and art therapist. In college, I was told by others that I needed a real job, because in their minds, “art” was not a job.
After a short stint as a preschool teacher, a graduate degree in Interior Design, and a decade of working in the architecture and design field, I started painting and drawing again.
Nearly three years after the pandemic, the mental load of working full time and parenting full time weighed heavily on me. I decided to take a break from full-time work, and started realizing that maybe “art” can be a job, after all. Both of my children are very artistic, and I would never want them to ever feel that their dreams weren’t valid. So, picking up a paintbrush, I decided to be an example for my children.
When I’m not in the studio, I’m doing yoga, going on bike rides, and walks on the trail near my house. I am driving kids to appointments and soccer and rock climbing; daydreaming about cacio e pepe in Rome; cheering on the strong women of KC Current; always (ALWAYS) on the hunt for good cheese.
